“Scrooge” Boris Ruins New Year
“Scrooge” Boris has done his best to ruin New Year for a large number of residents of Enfield & Haringey by removing free travel on the rail network this New Year’s Eve.
In 2003, under the previous Mayor Ken Livingstone, free travel on New Year’s Eve was introduced to help people get home safely after celebrating in Central London. However “Scrooge” Boris has decided to cancel the scheme for the railways.
Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, said: "While some of my constituents will still be able to use the tube or the buses to get home this New Years Eve, a large number would normally use the rail services."
“I am very disappointed, given that times are tough for a lot of people, that “Scrooge” Boris has decided to take away some of the Christmas Spirit and force people to pay for their transport home.”
This all comes on the back of “Scrooge” Boris’ decision to raise the cost of travelling in London by 20% for some bus users.
Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, said: “I think that these actions by “Scrooge” Boris shows us what his resolutions are for 2010. CUT Spending, CUT Services, INCREASE fares, INCREASE misery for millions of Londoners.”

Assembly members put questions to the Mayor of London.
